Neurophysiology

Neurophysiology is the study of nervous system functioning performed through a series of diagnostic procedures that measure brain activity in response to different stimuli.

There are several different procedures used to measure brain activity and help diagnose conditions such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, brain damage and more. Some of these tests include:

  • Electroencephalogram
  • Electromyogram
  • Nerve conduction velocity
  • Evoked responses
  • Doppler ultrasound

Most of these tests involve attaching electrodes to the brain and measuring its response to different activities. Your doctor can analyze these responses and help diagnose your condition or determine your risk of a cardiac event. The best exam for your individual condition will be decided by your doctor after a thorough evaluation of your condition. In some cases, more than one test may be needed.
